GREAT INTEREST IN COLBACK SMR AT INTERNATIONAL NONWOVENS SYMPOSIUM

Arnhem, the Netherlands (June 2007) –

Experts in nonwovens were briefed on the latest innovation in environmentally sustainable products from Colbond at the Edana International Nonwovens Symposium held in Berlin, Germany on May 30 & 31. Luuk van der Molen, Development Program Manager, Colbond, presented the development of Colback SMR, the only nonwoven primary backing in the market today using 100% recycled polyester from post-consumer bottle scrap.

A focal point of Colbond’s technical lecture was on measures taken to assure that nonwovens made from sustainable raw material provide the same technical characteristics and performance as virgin raw material products.

Harry Verbakel, Sales and Marketing Director, Colbond, said: “Sustainability is high on the agenda in most of the markets for nonwoven products. We were delighted with the response to our presentation on environmentally friendly and durable nonwovens; the feedback has been very useful. The annual Edana Symposium is a powerful platform for the exchange of information across the industries.”

Launched at Domotex Hanover in January, Colback® SMR is Colbond’s answer to the increasing demand for environmentally friendly components in tufted carpets. Like all Colback nonwovens, Colback SMR carpet backing provide features such as outstanding dimensional and thermal stability, high tear resistance, affinity to coatings and a uniform open structure.

A summary of the information presented at Berlin or a copy of the paper can be obtained on request.
